65 people braved the chilly and damp conditions to participate in the Night-O and Search-and-Destroy-O at Cricket Holler. Followed by our first potluck since a certain global event.

The rules were simple: a mass start at 6pm, with 1 hour to punch as many controls (out of 20) as you cared to find. Each control punched was worth 1 point. We need to get a new air horn, so instead we yelled "GO!". Then at 7:00pm we yelled "GO!" again to start the search-and-destroy-O. Each control returned was worth 1 point. 4 of the controls also used the white controls stands, and each stand was worth 1 point. Again this year, people were pulling the control off the stand, leaving it behind for another person to find and get the point. Sometimes when that second person is only steps behind, and can snag it before you realize that you forgot to get it.

The course was designed by Ben Bond, who made it a little bit less difficult this year. Due to the conditions last year, he stayed away from the fences and concentrated most of the controls in a small area. But since the council has sold off Woodland Trails, they are now putting money and energy into fixing up the camp. We're going to have to remap it next fall.

We did not institute the "Matt Bond" rule again this year, mainly because we forgot about it. But he still cleared all 20 controls. However, due to his feeling a bit off (not covid), he placed 3rd in the night-o portion.

We were very glad to have Freeport HS NJROTC. Haven't heard of Freeport HS? Well, maybe because they are from ILLINOIS! They were in town for the OCIN championship and chose to come up and do our event too (record for furthest away competitor still goes to Sharon Crawford, who is from Colorado). The Winners set a new course record of points!
